Florida Swimming Club is ready

RUIMSIG – Swimmers from the Florida Swimming Club are ready to battle it out at the Pietermaritzburg Short Courses Swimming Championship

Seven swimmers from the Florida Swimming Club are ready to battle it out at the Pietermaritzburg Short Courses Swimming Championship.

The four-day gala will be hosted in Pietermaritzburg from 16 to 19 July.

The swimmers will represent the club on a national level. Club coach, Tracey Hemphill, said the swimmers were ready considering their overall performance in the previous competition.

The team acquired 17 medals during the SASOL National Winter Swimming Championship held in Sasolburg. “Results from Sasolburg were very promising. The team members are still in full blow and are training tirelessly,” she said.

Club member Alfred Purchase said the club was like his family – his team mates and coach were always there for him. “I am working hard this week and I am ready for this championship,” he explained. Purchase accumulated six silver and three bronze medals in Sasolburg.

Another club member, Jessica de Beer, accumulated seven medals including three bronzes and four silvers. She said she was a bit nervous about the upcoming competition. “I will be ready by next week, I am training very hard,” she said.

According to De Beer, competing in Sasolburg was very cold but taught her the experience of a life time.
