Stolen bakkie found in policewoman’s possession
It was already in the early stages of being stripped, presumably to find the tracking device.
The Tracker tracking company, West Surburbs Roodepoort Neighbourhood Watch (WSRNW) and the police made a surprising discovery yesterday (11 December) at about 7pm, when they found a police officer in possession of a stolen bakkie.
WSRNW received reports of a helicopter circling Witpoortjie. When they went to investigate the came across a Tracker bakkie on Cabot Avenue. The Tracker team informed them they were looking for a stolen Toyota Hilux bakkie. They then followed the tracking device signal to a house on Italeni Avenue.
On arrival they asked the woman, who was at home alone, to open the garage but she said she did not have the keys and that her husband had left for Bloemfontein in the morning. They then broke open the garage doors and discovered the stolen vehicle. It was already in the early stages of being stripped, presumably to find the tracking device.
When WSRNW, police and Tracker team members looked into another vehicle on the premises, they saw pieces of a police uniform inside. When they enquired the woman told them that she was a police officer.
Although the woman allegedly maintained she had no knowledge of the bakkie in the garage, she was arrested based on the fact that she was the only person on the premises.
