Christmas wishes from the Executive Mayor

Residents should use the festive season to reflect on the past year’s activities

The holiday season is upon us and residents of Roodepoort and surrounding areas are preparing for the Christmas and New Year period.

The Executive Mayor of the City of Johannesburg (CoJ), councillor Herman Mashaba has taken this opportunity to share his end-of-year message with residents.

“Joburgers from different communities and religious traditions celebrate days and festivities that are of great importance to them and their families. The Christmas and New Year period are also an opportunity for all to reflect on activities of the past 12 months and to energise themselves for the year that lies ahead,” Mashaba said.

He assured residents who voted for change in how the CoJ is managed that the trust they placed in the new administration team will be rewarded. He also used the opportunity to promise residents that the new administration is – and will always be – committed to offering residents quality service delivery, job creation and promoting the best interests of everyone living in the CoJ.

Mashaba said he and the CoJ were delighted with the residents’ positive reaction to the initiatives undertaken during his first 100 days in office and he assured residents that there are many more changes to look forward to in the new year. “We’re moving forward with the implementation of our ten point plan and creating an environment within which private citizens can thrive and reach their potential,” he said.

Residents were urged to keep safe and drive responsibly during the festive period and to keep the sacrifice and dedication of the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) and Emergency Management Services (EMS) – who will be on duty throughout this time – in mind. “They are protecting you, and I thank them for their service,” said Mashaba.

He concluded by saying, “I wish all our Christian residents a blessed Christmas. This is an opportunity to spend quality time with family, loved ones and friends. Over this period, please also reflect on your blessings and spare a thought for those less fortunate. 2017 will be an eventful and exciting year as we continue to move Johannesburg forward. I look forward to continuing this journey with you.”
