Horizon View primary bring hope for Devan

Horizon View primary school recently had a fundraiser for Devan Naidoo who suffers from End Stage Renal Disease.

The school had a special civvies day and managed to raise R4500, handing it over to Devan and his wife Annie last week.

“We are grateful for the help from the school because every cent counts. The donation from the school will go directly to the trust fund that we opened. After the article “Hoping for a miracle” came out, we have people from all walks of life calling us and praying for us over the phone and that was amazing,” said Devan.

The organiser of the event was Irene Komichi, one of the teachers at the school who had seen the article about the Naidoo’s in the Record two months ago.

“I read the article and it made me realise that their son Anniston is at our school. I want him to know that school is also his family and we are not here to just educate. His family needed help so I pitched a few ideas to the staff to raise funds and they were all on board. We should help where we can and if we know the family then all the more reason to do so,” said Irene.

Annie was surprised that the school had a fundraiser after they called to inform her that she should come to the school to accept the donation.

“I am overwhelmed, what the school has done is such a blessing and it shows they care. It is really amazing that they went out of their way to do something so special and we are grateful to them,” said Annie.

Doctors discovered that Devan has a blocked artery and are awaiting the results of his latest angiogram to see if his body is suitable for a kidney transplant.

“I am hoping to have a good Christmas so we are praying for great news from the doctors. With my condition, organs start failing one after the other so going through surgery would be a risk if my body is not in good working condition. This disease is not something I would wish even upon my worst enemy,” said Devan.

The family have set up a trust account D Naidoo T/A Kidney Support Fund with FNB. The number is 62514856783 and the branch code is 250409 for any donations.

“No matter what he goes through, he still goes to work to provide for his family,” said Annie.
