Roodepoort athlete critical after hit and run incident
According to eyewitnesses, the driver tried to speed off after the incident but two vehicles gave chased, forcing it off the road.
A Roodepoort Athletics Club member who was hit by an alleged drunk driver this weekend while participating in road race is still in Intensive Care Unit in Boksburg.
Hayley Ryan was competing in the Colgate Road Race in Boksburg when a blue VW Golf tried to overtake another vehicle and drove into the athletes.
He was airlifted to hospital with critical injuries and underwent surgery.
The driver was arrested and faces charges of drunken driving, reckless or negligent driving and attempting to flee the scene.
