City Parks in conjunction with the West Rand Astronomy Club and Roodepoort Rotary Club launched the planet walk at Kloofendal Nature Reserve on 9 November.

The event kicked off at approximately 3pm and attendees (which included pupils) were taken on a guided tour of the solar system where planets were placed strategically all over the reserve. At each ‘planet’ there was a guide who could explain more facts about the specific planet.

Pupils also were treated to lunch packs, face paintings and jumping castles.

This was followed by the official opening ceremony where Reserve Manager Bishop Ngobeli and Anneas Balt from Roodepoort Rotary Club cut the ribbon.

The day was rounded off when the visitors were shown sun spots through the giant telescopes of the Astronomy Club.

Finally everyone was taken on a spider night walk where all kinds of creepy crawlies could be investigated.
