Residents’ taps to run dry?

Power problem leads to water shortage.

First residents were plagued by electricity outages and now water supply seems to be the problem.

On 9 September the Record received numerous calls from irate residents and business owners in the Wilro Park, Helderkruin and Horison areas complaining that they have no water. Westgate Shopping Centre also was affected by the problem that started somewhere between 8am and 9am.

At approximately 2pm the Record went to investigate at the water reservoir on Crous Drive and found a Joburg Water truck and generator on the scene. The Joburg Water technician in attendance explained that due to a power outage the water could not be pumped from the reservoir to the water tower on Mimosa Avenue, which serves the mentioned suburbs.

He explained that he was waiting for City Power to come out and help him to connect the generator, but estimated that the problem would be solved in “an hour or two”.

When the Record was about to leave, ANC Councillor Willie van der Schyf arrived on site to establish whether anything was being done since he had “a chat with Joburg Water’s General Manager earlier”.
