The Marshall Music School recently held a rock band workshop concert at the Ramkietjie restaurant in Ruimsig.
Music teacher at Marshall Music Mark Trump said it served to provide aspiring musicians with a one-on-one lesson in performing in a band environment, and 27 musicians took part.
“They learn musical arrangement and stage performance skills. It also takes them out of the solo environment and allows them to apply what they’ve learnt in music lessons to a realistic scenario,” said Marshall of the workshop.
The participants were informed a week prior to the workshop with whom and what song they would perform. This year’s workshop produced six bands which performed songs by Muse, Kid Rock and Linkin Park, amongst others.
“The band workshop creates camaraderie and great enthusiasm for music and performing in a band.”We do not want this event to be labelled a competition, no bands were awarded first or second place. We did, however, give a prize to a solo performance,” Trump said.
Nine-year-old Taylin Toweel won for best solo act for her piano performance of the “The Entertainer”.
