Emergency landing uproots traffic
WILGEHEUWEL – Paul Kruger Avenue closed down due to emergency patient evacuation.
An emergency helicopter landing interrupted motorists on the corner of Paul Kruger Avenue and Christiaan de Wet Road on 7 October just after lunch time. According to motorist Danie Human, the security company Londoloza directed traffic to avoid Paul Kruger Avenue, which was closed due to paramedics having to transport a critical patient to the helicopter.
“It happened all of a sudden; I looked up out of my car window as I was sitting at the traffic light on the same corner and, low and behold, an emergency helicopter was busy landing,” Said Human.
Life Wilgeheuwel Hospital spokesperson Glynis Krebser confirmed that the patient was collected from the hospital but added that due to strict patient confidentiality that no more details could be released about the patient.
Vital Med spokesperson Tania du Toit confirmed that paramedics from the company were assisting Netcare 911 in transporting the patient.
“The traffic flow returned to normal shortly after the helicopter left at about 3pm,” concluded Human.
