Security guards at Weltevreden Park Clinic are delighted to have finally been able to move into their new guard house.
According to Akandi Mtombe, the old guard house where the guards used to sit during their shifts was an old, dilapidated Wendy-house and the wind blew straight through it.
Ward 126 councillor Mike Tonkin said, “The guards had to work in the cold weather in a guard house that wasn’t fit for the weather and it was literally falling apart, something had to be done.”
Mtombe continued, “The guards were unhappy and they didn’t want to come to work because of the guard house.” He was surprised when the clinic started to construct the new guard house at the beginning of the year.
“The guard house is now finished and it’s a much bigger brick building that will protect us against the elements,”Mtombe added.
Tonkin explained that the clinic decided to spend money to build a new guard house as security is a big problem at the clinic. “There have been one or two break-ins in the past and the criminals stole medicine from the clinic. The guards considerably lower the chance that this will happen again, as they patrol the premises and the guard house is situated next to the main gate which leads into the clinic.”
Mtombe concluded and thanked the clinic for the new guard house.
