Due to the many interested residents in the Constantia Kloof and surrounding areas we have since created the Constantia Kloof Brown Hyena Project Facebook page.

Very few of you know that the animals have been roaming around the area for a number of years and have been monitored by us over the past two years.

Over the past few days there’s been an increase in the number of sightings and has since gone viral on all social mediums. Some residents are quite intimidated by the animals at first glance as it is not a sight you would normally expect, other are very curious and want to know more.

The Brown Hyena is a harmless scavenger and won’t harm humans or pets. There is no need to fear them.

As a community it should instil a sense of pride that we have these endangered animals living within our boundaries.

We have started a non-funded research team to try and gather as much information as we can about these animals, individual behaviour, population in the area and photographs of sightings.

If you would like to get involved in this community educational programme or wants more information please free to contact us: Floridacpf@gmail.com, on Twitter @FloridaCPF or the Constantia Kloof Brown Hyena Project Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/Brownhyenawatch?skip_nax_wizard=true
