Friendly tournament prepares teams for their league
Baseball fanatics had a feast of the sport on Sunday 6 October, when Panorama sports club hosted a friendly baseball tournament.
Five clubs participated in the tournament: Panorama baseball team, Bombers baseball club from Weltevreden Park, Alexandra baseball club, Mustangs from Marks Park and Imps from Edenvale. Age groups included under 12, under 15 and under 18.
Chairperson of Gauteng Baseball, Janice Bergman, said the tournament was preparation for the league, which begins in two weeks.”This is just to get teams back on their competitive edge. It also helps children who just started playing softball [baseball] to understand what happens during competitions.”
Alexandra baseball club and Imps arrived with a lot of players and had more than one team playing per age group. All teams gave it their best, despite the excessive heat.
Those who love the game were spoilt for choice, with three games being played at a time, and others took advantage of the day and treated it as a great family outing.
On Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 October Panorama baseball team will be playing at the Pat Mc Kinnon friendly tournament which will be held at the Edenvale sports grounds.
