Tree on the tip removed, residents feel safe

Motorists in Sovereign Road, Struben's Valley now has had a different kind of challenge in the form of a tree the past few months.

Motorists in Sovereign Road, Strubens Valley can now drive safely again.

This follows after a tree that was about to fall down got removed by City Parks.

Strubens Valley resident Tienie Venter initially called Roodepoort Northsider as a last resort seeing he could not get a response from City Parks.

“But I think after the media dealt with them, City Parks realised how serious the matter is. They came here on a Sunday morning and the tree got removed.”

Venter first reported the tree in January after which he got a reference number. But then came March, then June, then July.

After Roodepoort Northsider’s queries City Parks Jenny Moodley said City Parks went to the sight to have the tree pruned.

And eventually the tree got removed entirely, Venter said. He lives in Muntstuk Avenue that meets with Sovereign Road in a T-junction.

“I am really grateful. I feel much safer. I really feel the media attention helped a lot in this case. The road which is very busy in the morning is much safer now because if that tree fell down on a car it would have killed the people seated in the vehicle.”
