Roodepoort karateka on her way to Morocco

She is ranked fifth in Africa and will be representing South Africa in Morocco

 

Danika Stevens, a karateka of the Goju-Ryu karate all styles affiliation group, was ranked fifth on the African continent for her achievements.

For the second year Danika, who is ranked number one in South Africa, represented her country at the United Federation of African Karate (UFAK) championships in Gaborone, Botswana where 55 African countries competed.

The Gauteng Karate Federation rewarded her for her hard work and dedication and she was named Sportswoman of the Year in 2017, 2018 as well as this year. She also won a silver medal at the Gauteng and National Championships and finished third in the Karate South Africa (KSA) Premier League in Bloemfontein.

She started participating in karate when she was eight years old and at the age of 17, she was awarded her Senior Proteas colours. She is a five time Premier League Champion, which resulted in her being the number one ranked female in the country.

Danika has also been selected to represent South Africa at the All African Games that will be held in Morocco later this year.
