Smiles and milestones at Roodepoort parkrun
Start your weekend in an active and fun-filled way with the Roodepoort parkrun.
The 5km Roodepoort parkrun, held every Saturday at 8am at Len Rutter Park in Florida Park, is the perfect place for family and friends to get together and get active.
On average, 461 people and their pets attend weekly. The scenic atmosphere was enjoyed by 688 people as they ran and walked together on 3 August and many people achieved new milestones. A barcode-based attendance system allows volunteers and participants to keep track of the number of parkruns they have done, as well as their times and milestones for each run.

While running 5km in the early hours of a Saturday morning may not seem ideal to many, the energetic and positive ambience of the these events is what attracts people. The volunteers who ensure the parkrun is conducted efficiently have a friendly and helpful disposition, making all participants feel welcome and important.
The first-placed male, Eden Hendricks, is a regular at the weekly runs and is often the favourite to win. His best time for the 5km run is 17 minutes, 48 seconds. Eden joined the parkruns with the goal of bettering his time after he had represented his school in the National Athletics Championships.

The first-placed female, Carmen Walker-Campbell, is part of the Florida Running Club, with a personal best of 21 minutes and 53 seconds. Carmen completes each run accompanied by her dog, Dobby. When asked about the runs, Carmen said that she could not do them without her faithful companion.
