West Rand toastmasters welcomes new committee

"Our mission is to provide a supportive and positive learning experience in which members are empowered to develop communication and leadership skills, resulting in greater self-confidence and personal growth."

The West Rand Toastmasters held its 465th meeting on Thursday, 20 June, and focused on the installation of its new members and the new committee.

Lynnette Harris called the meeting to order and Esther Dreyer, the outgoing President, welcomed the guests and also presented apologies.

The outgoing president introduced the Toastmaster of the evening; namely Lynnette Harris and Ines Leal took on the role of Joke Master.

The meeting consisted of two prepared speeches. The first prepared speech was delivered by Andre Diedericks , who spoke about the five-second rule. He explained to the meeting that it only takes five seconds to make a life-changing decision.

The second prepared speech was delivered by Edna Nkhwazi who presented her Ice Breaker, entitled Here and There.

Esther Dreyer delivered her outgoing speech and after that Tebogo Majoka, who chaired the installations, was introduced.

The new committee consists of Jeffrey Nkhwazi, who is the Sergeant-at-arms and Edna Nkhwazi, who is the treasurer. Jacqui Motaung took on the role of secretary, while Glen Campbell is the vice-president for Public Relations.

Thato Majela was introduced as the vice-president for membership and Malcolm Harris as the vice-president for education.

Lynnette Harris was introduced as the new president.

The new committee members will be attending the Club Officers’ Training on Saturday, 6 July.

During the meeting, some awards were presented – Alwyn van Wyngaarden took the Most Improved Toastmaster award, while Glen Campbell received an award in the marketing category.

Toastmaster of the Year went to the new president, Lynnette Harris.

It was concluded that the next meeting will be held on Thursday, 4 July at the Discovery Bowling Club.
