Bunch of hooligans terrorising neighbourhood

Father begged dogs' owner not to open police case.

A resident residing in Maple Street in Lindhaven, who asked to stay anonymous, is concerned about the alleged antics of a small gang operating in her suburb.

On Thursday, 6 December, both of her two-month-old prized Pit Bull Terrier pups, for which she paid R12 000, were stolen from her property during the day when no one was home. Her son and a friend did their own investigation and discovered that a certain young man (whose identity is known to the Record), in his late twenties, and his cohorts were allegedly involved in the theft of the dogs and that the two animals were at an address in South Road.

When the owner of the dogs went to the address, she did not only discover that her two dogs were there but that there were numerous other dogs on the property which seemed not to belong there. The man at the property, who allegedly is the father of one of the ‘gang’ which consists of about eight members, begged the woman not to open a case with the police and gave her her dogs back.

“I warned him that his son is hanging out with the wrong crowd. There are rumours that their activities are fuelled by drugs and that they roam the area scouting to commit petty crimes,” she said. When the Record prompted her as to whether she thinks the young men were linked to reports of schoolchildren being robbed at the intersection of South Road and Rothchild Street, she said, “It is most likely”.

The owner of the pups has asked the community to be vigilant. “They watch houses to see the occupants’ routines and then strike when they are not home,” she concluded.
