Warning: Weather service predicts severe storms

There is a strong possibility of large hailstones, damaging winds and heavy rain

The South African Weather Service has issued a weather alert for today, 12 December.

According to their Twitter account, severe storms with potentially large hailstones, heavy downpours and damaging winds are expected across Gauteng.

This comes after an unconfirmed tornado caused severe damage in the Vaal Marina area yesterday (11 December) at approximately 5.30pm.

During the first 10 days of December, Johannesburg has already received 109mm of rain, which is 4mm more than the average rainfall (105mm) usually received during this month.

The temperatures for the rest of the week will be as follow:

• Tuesday: 13°C – 29°C (33 per cent chance of rain)

• Wednesday: 12°C – 27°C (27 per cent chance of rain)

• Thursday: 13°C – 29°C

• Friday:13° – 27°C
