Motorists urged to use alternative routes

Road closed.

Police and JMPD officials have warned motorists to use alternative routes to Albertina Sisulu Road along Princess informal settlement. The road is still closed after a cargo truck was burnt by residents last night. They also blocked the road with rocks and burning tyres. JMPD Superintendent Wayne Minnaar confirmed that the road will remain closed for the foreseeable future.

“We will only open the road after the truck has been safely removed and it is safe for motorists to use the road again. Only the police will give us the go-ahead once they have assessed the situation,” he said.

It is not known how long it will take to remove the truck as the JMPD does not have a tow truck. Police are tracing the owners of the truck for assistance. Protest action in Princess was sparked last month and has been ongoing sporadically.
