Florida Cricket team bats opponents out of water
Promotional league in full swing
Florida Cricket Club’s senior team got back to winning ways after beating their Roshnee Cricket Club counterparts earlier this month. It was the first match in the 1st XI Promotion League 2016.
After losing the toss Florida was forced to bat first early in the morning. Cole Abrahams and Deen Kimmie opened the batting but Kimmie did not last long as he was dismissed with two runs. Cole was then joined at the crease by Brice Ernest who was also dismissed for just eight runs. Florida was reeling at 29/ 2, however, this was a chance for Cole who along with Junior van Rooyen, laid a solid foundation for their innings.
Wayward and slack bowling by Roshnee ensured Florida’s duo were not under pressure at the crease and find their range as they sent the ball to all corners off the cricket field for boundaries and sixes. Junior was eventually caught in front of his stumps and dismissed LBW on 131 runs from 94 balls. He hit 14 boundaries and six sixes. The score was 318/ 3 when Declan Osborn walked to the crease.

But at this point, it was a one man show as Cole continued where he and Junior left off and punished the Roshnee bowlers. Although no batter could stay with Cole, he made the most of it, reaching a double century. He was eventually bowled out for 276 from just 152 balls. He hit 20 boundaries and 17 sixes, helping Florida post a mammoth 493 runs.
Then it was Roshnee’s turn to bat and chase down the score, but in the field Florida’s men were on fire as Kivesh Padarath took three early catches on the boundary. Florida bowler Levino le Roux had taken three wickets for 34 runs, taking care of Roshnee’s big hitters who posed a threat. Omar Kimmie also assisted with the ball, getting three wickets for 45 runs while Augusto Moosa took two wickets for 23 runs. Florida’s tight bowling coupled with immaculate fielding restricted Roshnee to 216 runs all out, 277 runs short of their target by the 23rd over.
The cricket season will take a Christmas break and resume on 15 January.
