National Book Lovers Day
Sit back, relax and enjoy your favourite book on #NationalBookLoversDay
National Book Lovers Day is celebrated annually on 9 August and is a day especially for all the bookworms.
Today you are encouraged to find a good book, be it fiction or non-fiction, find your favourite reading place and read the day away!
Let’s step back in time for a minute with some of these interesting facts about books:
– Vellum (calf skin) or parchment were used for book pages in the very first books.
– Book covers were mad of wood and often covered with leather.
– Books were fitted with clasps or straps
– Public libraries appeared in the Middle Ages
– To prevent theft, books were often chained to a desk or bookshelf in public libraries
Moving forward a few years, book manufacturing’s most recent development include digital printing where toner instead of ink is used to print book pages.
The development of digital printing also opened up the posssibility of printing on demand, where no books are printed until after an order is received from a customer.
The popularity of e-books are also rapidly increasing. An e-book (Electronic book) is a book-length publication in digital form and is available through the internet. They can also be found on CD-Rom or other forms. An e-book is either read by computer or an e-book reader, such as a Kindle.
Reading can be informative and by reading you can broaden your general knowledge.
To celebrate, take your favourite book, relax and escape into the fantasy world of your imagination.
