Update: ‘City of Johannesburg is morally corrupt’

“It is extremely sad that the Metro Police and its spokesperson Wayne Minnaar choose to selectively apply by-laws. Whilst ‘street trading’ and ‘street advertising’ without a permit are prohibited by Johannesburg’s by-laws, it is somewhat disturbing that the City of Johannesburg chooses to sell highly distracting advertising space on street poles all over the City, particularly on freeways, which advertising has a highly detrimental effect on road safety,” said Dembovsky.

‘Chainsaw’ update: “We feel sorry for these guys” says Metro cop

“We are not for one second suggesting that illegal street trading should simply be allowed, but what we are saying is the City of Johannesburg is morally bankrupt in the way in which it chooses to pursue revenue instead of having a social conscience and consistency in the way in which it applies the law. Then again, expecting them to have any conscience whatsoever appears to be asking way too much of the City and its thugs in the Metro Police,” he concluded his strongly worded reply.
