Young canoeists make waves

Juniors from the Florida Lake Canoe Club Community (FLCC) Youth Development Program were successful at the Gauteng Canoe Union School League canoe race last weekend.

The race, hosted by the Victoria Lake Canoe Club was held at Germiston Lake.

“They train regularly at Florida Lake throughout the year and participate in the monthly races hosted at various dams around Gauteng which include sprints and marathons,” said Gauteng Canoe Union’s Jennie Dallas.

Bonolo Mohapi was the gold medal winner in the U/8 female while Ameerah Hank won a silver medal in the U/10 female category.

In the U/12 female category, FLCC girls took all three podiums.

Kamilah Hank won a gold medal with Ketso Mohapi and Sisanda Mthabela taking silver and bronze medals respectively.

In the boys section, Matthew van der Merwe won a silver medal in the U/12 boys and Jaydon Hunt also brought home a silver medal in the U/14 boys.

In the U/16 boys section, Tristan Trican won a gold medal while Tumelo Motseki followed behind him to claim a silver medal.

Moses Nghomane took gold in the U/18 section.
