Breaking News: Witpoortjie Pick n Pay evacuated

The Witpoortjie Pick n Pay centre in McGrath Street had to be evacuated this afternoon just before 3pm when shoppers and tenants noticed smoke in the store.

Soon customers and employees gathered outside while smoke billowed out of the centre’s entrance. Meanwhile management was inside assuring everyone got out safe.

According to some tenants and employees of the grocery chain store, it was an alleged electrical short in the air conditioning system due to faulty wiring that caused the excessive smoke.

Western Suburbs Roodepoort Neighbourhood Watch (WSRNW) was on the scene within minutes while the tenants and shoppers waited for the emergency services
