Cub spruces up Floroma Old Age Home

Floroma Old Age Home was at the receiving end of a First Eagle Scout cub’s hard work in greening the community.

Phillip Obermeyer, 10, is a cub of the First Eagle Scouts group in Witpoortjie who beautified the old age home’s garden with a fruit tree during the school holidays in April. He is a Grade 4 pupil at Maragon Private School in Ruimsig and has been involved with the scouts since the age of seven.

Phillip titled his Floroma project “Greening our community”. His work at the home was towards the Leaping Wolf badge at the club. To earn this badge, he has to work independently, plan and do things himself. He is also completing work towards his Lions badge which he hopes to attain before his birthday in July, proud mother Sandra told the Record.

“This is a true challenge to every club and we’re honoured that he chose to help us” George Petzner, manager of the home, in a press statement said.

“We wish Phillip everything of the best with his studies and his attempt to obtain his Lion and Leaping Wolf badges,” Petzner said.
