Child Welfare breaks Guinness World Record

Pampers made the largest contribution of over 10 000 nappies and 200 boxes of Pampers wipes.

The Johannesburg Child Welfare (JCW) surpassed expectations and broke the Guinness World Record for a new category – Most collected baby products – on Friday 28 March. The items were received during the three-day Kids and Baby Expo held at Emperors Palace during the previous weekend (21 March).

Their record was made possible by a contribution from Pampers South Africa that donated 10 000 nappies and over 200 boxes of Pampers wipes to the welfare organisation.

They collected 2 052 kilograms of baby products, surpassing the Guinness challenge of 500 kilograms set to them. Thanks to contributions by residents, corporate companies and the Pampers South Africa donation, they exceeded the challenge by over 1 500 kilograms.

The items collected include nappies, baby products, food, baby formula, medication and toys.

“These products will be distributed to Othandweni Children’s Home in Soweto and to 66 other community-based organisations in the greater Johannesburg,” said Johannesburg Child Welfare Senior Fund Developer Belinda Abrahams.

Pampers South Africa communication manager Jeanne du Plessis was very pleased with the results of their and other donations.

“Johannesburg Child Welfare is doing a great job of taking care of orphaned children and we relish in the opportunity to help better our communities.

“Our staff volunteered for this cause and left the [Kids and Baby] Expo feeling good for having contributed.”
