Rea Vaya strike over, Gautrain bus strike starts

Services have resumed on Thursday.

The Rea Vaya bus drivers’ strike is over.

South African Municipal Workers Union (Samwu) and operating companies Piotrans and Litsamaiso settled out of court.

Samwu and the companies reached a consensus that the labour brokers issue was redundant, and Samwu already agreed to withdraw their demand that the senior staff be allowed to pick their own shifts. Their final demand, that the union be introduced to newly inducted workers, was agreed to.

Bus drivers operating Gautrain feeder buses have embarked on an unprotected strike in Johannesburg, according to Gautrain operating company Bombela. The buses in Pretoria still were operating on Friday 4 April. Negotiations are under way
