Following extended delays in the reconstruction of the closed Spring Road bridge, Ward 126 councillor, David Brand, has announced the appointment of a contractor.
Brand indicated that the contractor was approved by the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA).

“A contractor has been appointed by the JRA for the demolition and rebuilding of the Spring Road bridge,” he said, adding that he and representatives from the JRA will be meeting with the contractor on 1 August to engage with all stakeholders. Details will be provided thereafter.
This bridge has been closed for two years after its integrity could not be guaranteed. The bridge suffered structural damage after heavy downpours in 2017, and has been barricaded ever since then.
Residents affected by this bridge closure have criticised the slow progress as it has negatively affected both the traffic flow and the crime levels.
