Annual Eagle Trophy once again a success at Ruimsig Country Club
The weather was perfect for two days of top-class golf during the weekend of 3 and 4 November.
A full field of golfers flocked to Ruimsig Country Club (RCC) during the weekend of 3 and 4 November for the club’s annual Eagle’s Trophy competition.
Golfers teamed up in pairs to battle it out for the honour of winning what is RCC’s largest club competition after the club championships. The Eagle’s Trophy was held in the betterball medal format, which provided for some extremely low scores over the course of the weekend.
The competition took place across the two morning fields of Saturday and Sunday, with 18 holes being played each day. Golfers teed off as early as 6.30am on a beautiful Saturday morning, all geared up and raring to go for the weekend that lay ahead.

While one golfer had something to say about the tricky pin placings, the course was once again in great condition and as always set a fair challenge for the golfers. The first day of golf concluded in the early hours of Saturday afternoon, but the festivities didn’t stop there.
As is the case every year, there was live music that the golfers could enjoy while reminiscing about the golf they’d played earlier in the day. The competition continued again on Sunday with golfers once again teeing off in the early hours of the morning, hoping to claim the title.
Saturday’s beautiful weather carried over to Sunday, with the course once again in great condition and some new tricky pin placings making things a little more difficult for the golfers. By the time the Sunday rounds had concluded, some spectacular golf had been played with some incredibly low scores coming up on the scorecards.

The Top 5 on the leader board at the conclusion of the day, started with scores as low as –14 from Brad and Cole Dodgen, who were ahead of three other pairs on –14 on count out.
Fourth place was taken by Billy Greyvenstein and Cedric White at –15, while third was occupied by Chris Christie and Carsten Bindczus at –16.
Second place belonged to Peet Marnewick and Handre Heyneke at –17 after rounds of 64 and 63 on Saturday and Sunday respectively. But, the winners of the 2018 Eagle’s Trophy were none other than Jannie Wagenaar and Rudolf Fuls, whose rounds of 65 and 61 earned them a one-shot victory at –18.
