Get your votes in now for local rapper at the 035 Awards

Let's all do our bit to help Ishmiza bring home the grand prize of Kwaito Artist of the Year at the 035 Awards in Empangeni.

Local rapper and performer Ishmael Ishmiza SA Masuku has been nominated for the Kwaito Artist of the Year award at the 035 Awards in Durban in December, and voting is now open.

For Ishmiza, Zandspruit has been all he’s known as he’s lived in the informal settlement for his whole life. His affection for music comes from his younger days, when he was a singer in his church choir.

“I just try to keep my music real and unique,” he said. “Everybody’s going for Kwaito, Rap, House, or Trap music nowadays, but I try not to sound just like everyone else.”

Ishmiza incorporates elements from both the Kwaito and Rap genres into his music, often mixing the two together into a song. “What I often do with my music is, if it’s a Kwaito beat, I’ll bring in a Rap sound with my voice, and if it’s a Rap beat, I’ll do the same just with a Kwaito sound to my voice,” Ishmiza elaborated.

As a reward for his continuous hard work, Ishmiza has been nominated for the Kwaito Artist of the Year award at this year’s 035 Awards set to take place at the Empangeni Moth Hall in Empangeni, Kwa-Zulu Natal.

Ishmiza is hoping to bring the award home to Zandspruit this year, but is only able to do so with the help of the public. For you to cast a vote for Ishmiza, you can SMS ‘Ishmiza’ to 35029, at a cost of R3. Free SMSes and bundles do not apply, unfortunately.
