Buddy Day, a day full of joy
After a tasty lunch of a boerewors roll followed by an ice cream, the group of about 400 people started making their way homeward.
Wow, what a day the Lions had planned for the disabled people of the community. A day filled with joy, laughter, food, music, and of course a lot of dancing, is a fulfilling day.
That was the atmosphere at the 14th annual Lions Buddy Day at La Salle College.

This year, the Lions of Roodepoort Host, Helderkruin, Weltevreden, Clearwater Cyber, and Krugersdorp, were joined by Northcliff, The Wilds and Alberton Clubs who each provided a different fun activity for the participants.
A breath of fresh air for the project was provided by a new venue, La Salle College, which graciously allowed the Lions the use of their grounds. This enabled the organisers to reach their goal, which was to allow 150 students from various high schools to be paired with 150 mentally and/ or physically challenged members of the community, thus providing the students the opportunity to experience the challenges and hardships that their guests endure on a daily basis, while giving their guests a lovely day of fun in the sun. Each Buddy was charged with looking after his or her guest, making sure that they participated in as many of the fun activities as possible.

The Lions were thrilled to have Christian Heath with his friends, Marlin, M’bali and Mark, perform on stage, entertaining everyone with a wide variety of songs which had the crowd on their feet, dancing, singing and clapping hands in time to the music.
The Lions would like to thank Coca-Cola, Apas, Dubar Crushers, MedGuys and the Bike Responders for their support and sponsorship.

The students came from a number of high schools in the area, and were joined by the cadets from the Roodepoort Fire Department and the Leo Club of Krugersdorp.
After a tasty lunch of a boerewors roll followed by an ice cream, a group of about 400 people started making their way homeward, tired, but happy, after a morning well spent.
