MULDERSDRIFT – Police are on the lookout for a suspect after a shooting at a taxi rank.

The Muldersdrift Police is on the lookout for a suspect that was involved in the death of a taxi driver recently.

Muldersdrift Police communications officer, Captain Hitler Ngwenya, said that police rushed to the taxi rank next to Cradlestone Mall on 4 August at approximately 7.20pm when they were made aware of a shooting at the taxi rank. “On their arrival, they found a man lying on the ground in a pool of blood,” said Ngwenya.

He added that eyewitnesses explained that the taxi was about to depart with approximately 11 passengers on board when an unknown man came to the driver’s side and pulled out his firearm. “He shot the victim multiple times in his upper body. The victim tried to run away, but collapsed,” said Ngwenya.

He said that it is alleged that the suspect followed the victim and continued shooting while he was on the ground. “It is alleged that the suspect fled the scene on foot.” The victim was declared dead by paramedics on scene.

“Muldersdrift Police is appealing for anyone who can assist with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspect, to please contact Detective Sergeant Sam Manana. We are appealing to the public not to confront the suspect as he is deemed to be extremely dangerous,” said Ngwenya.
