20 Years of passion for choral music
FAIRLAND – After 20 years of being a conductor, Mohau Mogale's passion for music continues to shine brightly.
For over 20 years, Mohau Mogale has been a choir conductor, something he would never give up in a million years.
“When I was about 15, a friend invited me to join a choir and that is when everything made sense to me and I decided that this would be my life,” Mogale explained.
He pointed out that he began pursuing a career in choral music and studied classical music at the Contemporary Music College in Pretoria and later graduated from the University of Pretoria. “A lot of people find it strange that I am a conductor and they do not understand why I chose this path as my career but I have a deep connection with music. What is on paper and what is performed can be so different,” he said.
With many accolades under his belt, Mogale said that anyone who wanted to pursue a career in music must begin with getting an education as the music industry needed more than just talent. “Going to school to hone your talent enables musicians to be well-rounded artists and it really goes way beyond the money,” he added.
Mogale will be leading the Sound of the Nation further into the Old Mutual Choir Festival after they took home the number one spot in the large choir category on 6 August at the Mosaïek Theatre in Fairland.
