Man in court after death of 3-year-old
MULDERSDRIFT – Driver expected to appear in Krugersdorp Magistrates' Court after the death of a three-year-old girl.
A three-year-old girl was killed when a driver lost control of his vehicle at the Spar Supermarket in Drift Road, Muldersdrift over the weekend .
Muldersdrift Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Hitler Ngwenya confirmed the incident.
According to Ngwenya, the incident happened at around 15.20pm on Saturday when a 30-year-old man apparently lost control of his vehicle and crashed into pedestrians in the parking lot of the Spar. The driver was allegedly driving recklessly.
“The three-year-old girl was instantly killed and an elderly victim was severely injured,” said Ngwenya. According to other reports, it is believed that the elderly victim was the little girl’s grandmother, but Ngwenya could not confirm this.
“The suspect did not stop but drove away from the scene of the crime, not establishing the extent of the injuries,” said Ngwenya. The injured victim was taken to the local hospital for medical treatment. Ngwenya confirmed that a case of culpable homicide was opened at the Muldersdrift Police after the suspect handed himself over the very same day. He added that additional charges may be added.
