Crime reduced by alliance between security companies and police

MULDERSDRIFT – Beware! Crime does not pay here anymore.

The partnership between Muldersdrift Police and private security companies is helping to reduce the rate of crime in the area.

Since the establishment of the Muldersdrift Communication Action Group (MCAG), the relationship between the police, security companies and residents have grown and is yielding good results.

Community Policing Forum (CPF) chairperson and a member of the action group, Johan Nell, explained how a three-pronged approach to crime could be highly beneficial.

He said that it is gratifying to read positive messages on the WhatsApp group applauding security companies and police.

“When private security companies, police and the community work together this is the result. Each of them plays a vital role in sharing information and we have seen the success of the alliance when the three work together,” he said.

He explained that their data shows that crime continues to drop in areas where there is a strong and active community security association working with the private security companies and police.

“Suspects need to get a very clear message – crime will not be tolerated in our area,” he concluded.

Here are some safety tips from MCAG to ensure a safe and relaxing holiday:

– Don’t visit areas that you are unfamiliar with, especially late at night.

– Always be aware of your surroundings and of the people around you.

– If you are yourself confronted by a criminal it is important not to resist, especially if the perpetrator has a weapon. Instead, give up your valuables move away and then try to find a safe place from which to contact the police.

– Do not leave your guest-house or hotel with a large amount of cash on your person or wearing extravagant jewellery. Rather leave these items in a locked safe in your room.

– If you are carrying a handbag when out and about, keep it close to your body. Do not let it dangle by the straps, as that makes it easier for someone to snatch.

– If you prefer carrying your purse, wallet or cell phone on your person, keep it in an inside coat pocket or the front pocket of trousers and not the back.
