On reading the front page story of Lu the Beagle I also felt it necessary to share our story about our ringneck, Pippa.
Pippa has been part of our family now for 10 years and he has earned his rightful and special place not only in our home but also in our hearts. He is such a big part of the family, friends and some of our work colleagues that when he flew out of the house last Friday, 26 Feb it felt like our lives has ended. Everyone in the neighbourhood was informed via our neighbourhood WhatsApp group to be on the look out for Pippa. A whole lot of people including colleagues, friends, family and neigbours alike, came to help us look for him and the whole Friday was spend searching streets, trees and rooftops for our little guy.
Searching had to stop later that evening as a big storm broke loose and we felt that he probably could not withstand this fierce storm with thunder and lightening as he never had to endure such a storm being a house pet.
But we had hope and the next morning our search resumed. Whistling and calling out to him this early we thought could better our chances in finding him as we live on the busy Christiaan De Wet Road and later the traffic noise would make it more difficult to hear him calling back to our calls and whistling .
The search and calls to vets in the area brought no Pippa back to our front door and by Sunday we felt very discourage and was loosing hope after even flyers and notes on social media also did not help to find him.
Monday morning we all left home for school and work not before leaving his two cages on top of our home’s roof, still hoping that by some miracle he would find his way back home.
At 2pm on Monday I received a message from our WhatsApp group informing us that one of our neighbours read on the Kloofendal Forum that a couple found a lost green bird.
I immediately contacted the given number and rushed to the house about three kilometres from our home. To my delight that lost green bird was our Pippa and I am not sure who was more glad to see the other, us seeing him or vice versa. Miracles still happens.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank neighbour Pierre Ferreira for being observant and informing us of the email on the Kloofendal Forum and Mr and Mrs Streibel for finding Pippa on the Sunday and making sure to find us and returning Pippa.
Thanks for every neighbour, friend, colleague and family member in helping us searching for Pippa. We all are one big happy family again. It helped too keep the faith and the support, even to find a little bird, from people around us also helped a lot.
