Davidsonville community moving foward

Community says thank you for overcoming divisive issues.

Moving Forward was the theme of the day as the Davidsonville Community Forum hosted a thanksgiving event at the Davidsonville Recreation Centre this weekend (31 January).

Together with the community and its leaders, the event was to thank the mediation team and all those involved including teachers, pupils and parents in finding a resolution in the Roodepoort Primary School saga.

“The service commemorated the efforts of all the individuals involved in the impasse and will attempt to promote unity and social cohesion in the community,” said Celeste van Rensburg.

Roodepoort Primary School’s acting principal Gasen Naicker outlined his plans regarding the school for the next two years.

“We will focus on learner performance, the functionality of the Student Governing Body, staffing within the school, learner discipline, infrastructure of the school and social cohesion. Those points will be important to look at to move the school forward,” he said.

The event had numerous pastors from the community who spoke about the hardships that revolved around the school and how the community can now move forward with peace and understanding.

Pastor Leon Barendse was asked to speak at the event and he had some conciliatory words to confer to those who attended.

“Last year I heavily involved with the school and the issues surrounding it. So today I am here to offer encouragement to the community to move forward,” said Barendse.

Reverend Gift Moerane also added a few words of encouragement.

“We are here to ask for peace and unity in the community. We wan to encourage the community to move forward,” said Moerane.

Van Rensburg said the voice of Davidsonville has been heard and is the result of putting trust in God.

“It’s only right to give God the honour in our struggle with the school challenge. If we stand united in our straggle, we can do any thing. Thank you to our Davidsonville community members and our friends from all over South Africa who prayed for us,” she said.
