Car jammers caught in stakeout

NORTH RIDING – Suspected car jammers are arrested in trap.

Two security companies and Honeydew Police arrested two men suspected of car jamming on 27 February.

They laid a trap for the men at Banbury Cross Village, North Riding.

The suspects are allegedly part of a group of three or four men suspected of five or six theft out of motor vehicle incidents in the area in the last two months.

“We waited for them,” said Victor Siwela, owner of Xplore Nation and Asikhulume Security. “We knew their car and we know them.” When the suspects parked at the centre, security guards, and two police officers in casual clothes, swept in and found two car jamming devices in their possession. Their vehicle also had false number plates.

The suspects are now in custody at Honeydew Police Station. Questions were sent to Honeydew Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Karen Jacobs, and comment is awaited. “It was a breakthrough for us,” Siwela said. “It will help other centres nearby.” He thanked Honeydew Police for the help.
