Police investigate suicide

WELTEVREDEN PARK – Body discovered next to Rugby Street on 9 November, police still unsure whether or not the man had committed suicide.

Late in the afternoon on 9 November a resident of the area was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head on Rugby Street.

According to Vital Med paramedics, a man on his way home, walked past a car that was standing next to the road . The man went to investigate why the car was standing there and he discovered the deceased. Eric Nicholas from Vital Med said, “We don’t know exactly what time it happened but we received a call that a person was sitting next to the road threatening to shoot himself. Upon arrival, we found the deceased with the firearm in his hand in a secluded area.”

Paramedics on scene added that they had discovered a note in the man’s car which indicated that he wanted to commit suicide.

Honeydew Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Karen Jacobs confirmed the incident. “We were called out to the scene and upon arrival we found the body of the man. We are still unsure as to whether it’s a suicide or not, so we have opened an investigation into the matter.”
