Hats to welcome spring
WELTEVREDEN PARk - Casual Day make it possible for pupils to raise R19 600 for Gateway Society.
While they were having fun, they were also raising funds for a good cause. On Friday 5 September, pupils from Welties Pre-School had a Spring Day hat competition to welcome the new season. The pupils also had their Casual Day stickers on to show their support for people with disabilities.
“This is something that we do annually to welcome spring and also support Casual Day,” said Jean Wild, who is a teacher at Welties Pre-School in Weltevreden Park. Pupils participated in the hat competition and two teachers from Weltevreden Park were judges.
On the other side, pupils from Weltevreden Park also dressed in their civvies and bought Casual Day stickers. The Grade 5 pupils went an extra mile to raise funds for Casual Day. “With Casual Day celebrating its 20th anniversary, we felt that we wanted to contribute even more than just purchasing a sticker,” explained Patricia Wild, who is a Grade 5 teacher at the school. On top of purchasing stickers, the pupils also bought hats to increase the proceeds that were donated to Gateway Society.
The two schools collectively donated R19 600 from the proceeds they raised in the selling of Casual Day stickers and hats.
Teachers from both schools said they were happy that they managed to collect money for Gateway Society.
