Five arrested after foiled housebreaking

Police and security company join forces to nail suspects.

Five suspects have been arrested after an attempted housebreaking in Dabchick Street, Florida Lake around 1pm on 6 August.

The suspects jumped over the fence but as they approached the house they realised they had been spotted as the resident already had pressed the panic button. The suspects jumped back over the fence and sped away in a white Toyota Quantum.

This information was provided to Dunmar Armed Reaction and Guarding and the sector vehicles. Shortly after this the vehicle was spotted in Potgieter Street, Hamberg, and the police and Dunmar pulled over the suspects.

Upon inspection they discovered an unlicensed firearm and three live rounds, which were stolen during a housebreaking earlier this year. The resident positively identified the suspects and they were detained by Florida Police.

The five suspects, aged between 18 and 26, will appear in the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court soon on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
