Panorama Cobras Junior Rugby U10 will kick off the rugby season playing against the Pirates Sports Club in Greenside on 7 June.
According to Kim Van Es, the secretary of Panorama Cobras, the team, which was undefeated when playing as U8 and lost two games as U9, this year they will be playing Pirates as U10s.
“Among the teams in the area that they played last year were Edenvale, Pirates, Randfontein,” said Van Es. She added that their aim for 2014 is to grow the club at the primary school level and develop a program to again involve youth that previously did not traditionally play rugby. We have been practising since the beginning of April and our game will commence from now,” she said. “The positive impact in practice is translating to our results with the club having won most of our fixtures and losing only two games,” she said.
Van Es added that all the rugby fixtures that the U10s will be playing are called Club Presidents League of the Golden Lions Rugby Union and they played annually in about June.
She also said that the club also begin its practice in March/April of the year whereby training sessions are held on a Tuesday and Thursday night from 5:30pm– 6:45pm.
“We are lucky enough to have 2 IRB level 2 and 3 level 1 qualified coaches as well as a few able bodied dads who have obtained the Boksmart qualification who come to our assistance,” she said. Van Es said in all, only 75 boys can be accommodated at a practice.
“This is my third year with the team and my quote for my team is ‘dynamite comes in small packages’, said Troy van Es, who is one of the coaches.
