
Paralympian Oscar Pistorious was charged with for the murder of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp on 14 February 2013.
In the early hours of Valentine’s Day 2013, Pistorious (26) shot Steenkamp (30) through a locked bathroom door at his residence in Pretoria. The bullets pierced her skull and shattered her right elbow and hip bones.
By the time emergency personnel arrived at 4.15am, Steenkamp had died.
Pistorious allegedly had mistaken her for a burglar.
Later that morning police spokesperson Katlego Mogale told the media that a 9mm pistol had been found at the scene. According to Brigadier Denise Beukes witnesses heard shouting in the evening and when the shooting took place.
Pistorious was granted bail and the trial is scheduled for 3 to 20 March 2014 in the Pretoria High Court.
If convicted of premeditated murder, Pistorious will face life imprisonment with no prospect for parole for at least 25 years.
