Meki dreams of empowering young women

"Your sense of satisfaction stems from your sense of achievement."

The Florida Toastmasters welcomes their new member Rosemary Meki.

She unleashed her potential on 21 May when she committed herself to grabbing the listeners’ attention with her ‘ice breaker speech’ (the first Toastmasters prepared speech) entitled ‘Empowering the girl child’.

Rosemary won the trophy for Best Prepared Speech that night through her sharing of significant personal experiences, her birth place, educational qualifications and family.

In 1983 Rosemary had qualified herself as a general nurse in Zimbabwe. She is enthusiastic about her future and alert to every opportunity.

“Your sense of satisfaction comes from your sense of achievement,” Rosemary believes. She is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree at the University of South Africa (Unisa).

“The more knowledge you have, the more choices you have.

“It is your responsibility to yourself to never stop learning, to constantly improve yourself.

“The greatest disservice you can do to yourself is to think that the end of your school days means the end of your learning.”

Rosemary aims to develop an insatiable curiosity in young women by empowering them to awaken their personal power and to take control of their lives.

Whereas most schools and universities can’t aid her in her vision, Florida Toastmasters can. With the Toastmasters a member learns how to formulate, express and sell ideas with poise and confidence.

The Florida Toastmasters Club meets at the Huguenot restaurant in Flora Centre on every first and third Tuesday of the month. The meeting commences at 7.30 pm. For more information contact Aubrey Govere on 083 796 8548 or Tim Knights on 082 894 7542.
