As the community scrambled for everyday essentials ahead of the impending lockdown, criminals pulled off a pre-lockdown heist. Surveillance footage obtained from HHH Security Services shows the cool, calm and collected thieves methodically stripping the high-end jewellers.

“A case of business robbery occurred at a Westgate Mall jewellery shop. Unknown men robbed goods worth about R100 000,” Gauteng Provincial Police spokesperson, Captain Kay Makhubela confirmed. The incident occurred on 25 March, just a day before the lockdown commenced. With police subsequently enforcing the rules of the lockdown, no arrests have yet been made.
The men are clearly visible in the footage, and the public is asked to share any information pertaining to the robbery with police as soon as possible. The Record is currently awaiting a statement being prepared by Westgate Mall and it will be published once received.
