JMPD impounds equipment of another illegal advertiser

Whistle-blowing seems to be helping to solve the issue of illegal advertising in Roodepoort.

The Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) was tipped off by a resident about another contractor taking chances on a bridge on Hendrik Potgieter and Christiaan de Wet Roads on Monday, 9 March.

The fine issued to the contractor.

A quick response by JMPD led to the impounding of the contractor’s vehicle, equipment and advertising material.

Ward 97 councillor Leah Knott, who thanked the role players in a Facebook post, encouraged the residents to report such occurrences to their local councillors or JMPD on 011 375 5911.

Illegal advertising can be quite a serious offence. And this can be attested to by the arrest of five workmen who were caught affixing heavy-steel structures to the Golf Club Terrace bridge in Constantia Kloof in October 2019. These men were charged with malicious damage to City-owned property and are in the process of undergoing trial in the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court this month.
