Rescued kitten given second chance to life

An animal lover and member of the Muldersdrift CPF, Sam Barale, who got ER24 to help before transporting the kitten to a nearby vet, said the kitten was in a dire condition when they found it.

An emaciated and dehydrated kitten that was rescued from the back of an empty bakkie in Muldersdrift is now living its best life.

An operation on 19 November involving the Muldersdrift Community Policing Forum (CPF), various security companies and the police, led to the recovery of this poor little kitten and it was rescued by sheer luck.

The director of BCI Security, Corinda Loots, said in the midst of the operation they flagged down a suspicious delivery bakkie for a stop and search. She said upon opening the back of the bakkie, they found the kitten.

An animal lover and member of the Muldersdrift CPF, Sam Barale, who got ER24 to help before transporting the kitten to a nearby vet, said the kitten was in a dire condition when they found it.

“The kitten literally hung from my hand, and it was unable to even lift its head,” Sam lamented.

“We had to blow some air at its direction and sprinkle it with some water to cool it off. We also had to give it some water to drink but it drank very little,” she explained.

Sam said the vet diagnosed the kitten with a kidney problem. “It had trouble eating or drinking water, there was even fear that it might be put down if its condition deteriorated,” she explained.

However, in a few days, the kitten’s health improved and it was transferred to Mama Kasi Rural Rescue, an organisation that looks after neglected animals in rural areas. It remains in good health and has even made friends with a dog that was also rescued and is being cared for at the centre.

Sam said the driver of the bakkie was charged with driving an unlicensed vehicle.
