Wanted shopping centre thieves apprehended

Five wanted suspects for shopping centre-related crimes were apprehended today, Sunday, 1 December following a tip-off about their whereabouts.

BCI Security operation manager Arno Dorfling said they received a call for assistance on a Whatsapp group about a vehicle that has been linked to various robberies at a local shopping centre.

“This vehicle and the suspects were flagged some time ago as wanted. BCI together with other security companies arrived at Retail Crossing shopping centre and were updated on the situation. While the members were being briefed, the wanted vehicle drove past them in an attempt to get away,” he explained.

He said the BCI Tactical Response Team gave chase, followed by the other security companies.

“On the corner of Hendrik Potgieter and Jim Fouche Roads the BCI Tactical Response Team managed to block the vehicle.”

“With the assistance of a BCI Armed Response Unit and another security company the members managed to box the vehicle in and arrested the five suspects,” he further explained.

Dorfling added that the local Police K9 Unit also arrived on the scene.

The suspects are said to have stolen about R10 000 worth of alcohol from a liquor store at the centre.

“The suspects were transported to Honeydew Police Station where they will be detained and charged for the theft,” Dorfling concluded.
