Cable thief nabbed in Wilgeheuwel

Midnight prowler apprehended in the greenbelt

As if the continuous electricity woes of the Wilgeheuwel community were not enough, one man seemed happy to compound them by stealing electrical cables in the local greenbelt. The cover of darkness was not enough though, as his movements caught the eye of security patrollers.

At roughly 1am on the morning of 14 November, BCI Security patrollers noticed a man in the greenbelt just off Sjampanje Street. The patrollers approached the man, who was found to be in possession of tools and electrical cables. Upon further investigation, it was revealed that the man had used the tools to dig up the electrical cables.

Daniel Belcher, Operations Manager at BCI Security, confirmed, ”Our patroller spotted movement behind the complexes. He called for back-up and when they arrived, they entered the greenbelt on foot. We found him with the tools and cables and made the subsequent arrest. The man was then taken to Honeydew Police Station”.

While the damage had already been done, the arrest will go some way towards removing elements that look to destroy the infrastructure of an already strained community.
