Mini-sub costs City a fortune

“They are still battling with an overload on the system,” Leah indicated.

The damaged mini-substation on Van Dalen Street has been replaced by the City, costing it about R700 000, according to MMC for Economic Development and Ward 97 councillor, Leah Knott.

On Saturday, 9 November, properties receiving electricity supply from the mini-sub were plunged into darkness after the faulty sub had caught alight.

A large majority of the area had its power restored on the same day; however, other parts of the area remained in the dark while the struggle continued to restore supply.

“They are still battling with an overload on the system,” Leah indicated.

She further invited residents to attend her public meeting on Tuesday, 12 November, which is aimed at addressing issues relating to cable theft, illegal connections and reporting mechanism.

The meeting will be held at 6pm in the Phelindaba Room on the first floor of the Roodepoort Civic Centre at 100 Christiaan de Wet in Florida Park.
